Muralist Sydonne Warren is set to debut her first solo art show on August 23rd, 2024, at Spanic Arts.

This independently produced exhibition will showcase her latest canvas works, highlighting themes of Caribbean heritage and the relationship Black women have with their hair. It will also feature some of her public art projects.

The exhibition reception on Aug 31 st is a ticketed event that promises an evening filled with vibrant art, cultural expression, and community engagement. With a professional background in mural painting spanning four years, including her project for the City of Calgary called “Origin Stories” at 64th Avenue & Metis Trail NE, “Daily Commute,” a temporary commission for The Core Shopping Centre, and “Magic Walk,” a collaborative project with fellow artists Tyler Lemermyer and Corey Bugden located at Centre Street and 7th Avenue N, Sydonne Warren is now turning her creative talents to canvas. This new collection delves into personal and cultural narratives, offering viewers an intimate look at the artist's heritage and identity.

The show aims to attract community members, gallery representatives, and potential buyers. In addition to viewing the stunning artworks, attendees will enjoy a rich cultural experience, including Jamaican cuisine provided by Sam's Kitchen.

The event will feature interactive art activities and a live painting performance, allowing guests to engage directly with the creative process. This event provides a place for artists and creatives to connect and network. Sydonne Warren has made significant contributions to the public art scene through her murals, and this solo show marks an important milestone in her career as she transitions to exhibiting canvas works.

"This exhibition is a celebration of my roots and an exploration of themes that are personal and significant to many," she said. "I am excited to share this journey with my community and invite them to experience my art in a new, intimate setting." "I believe that artists are society’s messengers," said Warren. "Through this show, I hope to not only showcase my work but to share an underrepresented perspective."
