About the Curator
The Settling in Translation exhibition is curated by the Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation (ICAI), established in January 2019. Committed to transforming Alberta's arts landscape, ICAI aims to empower immigrant and newcomer arts professionals by offering tailored opportunities. ICAI serves as a supportive hub, providing resources and platforms for immigrant and newcomer arts professionals to thrive in Alberta. About the Artist
Firuze Avci is a Turkish ceramic artist based in Calgary since 2022. With a background in sociology, she explores themes of feminism, immigration, and empathy through clay. Trained by master potters and experienced in various techniques, she works across traditional pottery, conceptual art, and interactive installations. Incorporating sculptural elements into her pieces, Firuze uses ceramics as a medium for storytelling, advocacy, and social reflection.
