Artist Statement:
I graduated in Fine arts from Damascus University in 1991. I’m a member of the Syrian Plastic Artists Union. I have over 30 years of experience in the Arts work—400 artworks, sculptures and paintings between 2002 and 2019. I have experience in art decoration as a job for income between 1992 and 2002. I’m a Professional sculptor in stone and wood carving—interior decoration and design—and Gypsum board installation. I have experience in iron artwork, welding, and mural artwork on walls and canvas. I participated in many exhibitions in Syria and Lebanon and several individual shows. One of My sculpture works was installed in the town square. It was made from local marble chosen to be shown in Palmera City (a historical place in Syria). I had to leave my country and my workshop, where I spent most of my life doing artwork practice. Now, I'm a resident in Calgary, Alberta, building my capacity and my portfolio in my new home and hoping to keep doing artwork as a career as it used to be. My inspiration comes from the relationship between humans and nature and animals, and most of the time, my inspiration comes from the shape of the wood I'm going to carve but under the theme I choose to create. I translate what I see in nature and humans and animals into abstract designs or surrealism.
