Immigrant Arts Mentorship Program (IAMP)
Supported by Rozsa Foundation and Calgary Arts Development
The Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation (ICAI) is excited to announce that the application for the Immigrant Arts Mentorship Program (IAMP) is now open. IAMP is a program for immigrant and refugee newcomers artists and/or arts administrators to connect, learn, and grow through one-on-one mentorship with an experienced colleague in their artistic discipline. ICAI has identified a need for community building and professional development for immigrants especially newcomer creatives in Calgary and through this program, we want to provide a platform for learning and growth. All applicants seeking mentorship will be paired with a mentor with experience in the area in which they seek mentorship.
Who can apply?
Newcomer and immigrant artists and arts managers in Calgary may have many challenges when finding work in the arts field. It could be access to reliable information, not knowing where to go for information or for networking opportunities. IAMP aims to be a platform for intentional networking for professional artists and arts managers where the newcomers who are immigrants/refugees can blend in, learn and establish themselves to pursue their artistic practice in the Canadian context.
Professional artists, arts managers and cultural/community leaders who are newcomers – immigrants/refugees who have lived in Canada for less than 7 years.
IAMP gives an excellent opportunity for mentees to attain 1:1 mentoring from the professionals in their respective fields of Arts practice. It also provides group meetings to foster unity and build the artists’ networking skills, community engagement and relationships. It comes with an opportunity to learn from other mentors and ask relevant questions and understand the expectations of the goal of the program.
At the end of the program, the mentees will have a chance to share what they have learnt and their growth.
Participants will receive a certificate that signifies a commitment to personal excellence and professional development. On a macro scale, this program aims to increase exposure for newcomers in the Arts and Community-oriented sector by supporting them with related information, networking opportunities, career guidance, motivation and one-on-one mentoring by already established Arts professionals.
