What is your name?
Tell us a little about your artistic background and journey
I am a Fine Artist that specializes mostly in painting in oil on canvas, drawing in pencils, charcoal, pastels and doing watercolour paintings on paper. I am also versatile in use of different media to depict my concepts in art. I do some metal sculpture and wood burning occasionally where I fabricate metal sheets, rods and hollow pipes to design wrought metal furniture for indoor and outdoor use plus drawing by burning masonite board to create images informed of portraits, landscapes or stylized art forms. As an artist I like to interpret my concepts in realism and at other times I do abstract or surrealistic plus styluses forms. II picked up drawing as a child and developed the skill through my studies in the university. I have since practiced art as a freelance painter at my home studio from Nigeria through Kuwait in the Middle East and now in Calgary Canada. I have done some solo and combined art exhibitions in Nigeria and here in Calgary.

What is your Artistic practice?
How long have you been in Canada?
I have been in Canada since December 5th, 2019
Have you had opportunities to showcase your works since you arrived in Calgary?
Yes I have had some opportunities to showcase my works in Canada but on a very small scale until this major chance came through the ICAI.
Can you tell us what inspires you to create your works?
I love nature and it’s active phases in its soft shades of colour, the contrasts and harmony of schemes it applies to seasons as the snow whiten to bright shine spraying uniquely, the trees spring back flowers only to later fall in variety of hues to my chagrin. The arrangements of elements and its forms that spray about free of charge. The fusion of colours that paint a sunrise and and sunset, the cascade of sunlight on water, people silhouetted against contrasting spaces and the sheer beauty of it all, bring joy to me when I replicate nature in my language of art
How did you feel having your works displayed at ICAI Event?
What are the challenges you are currently facing as an immigrant / newcomer artist?
My challenges as an immigrant artist in Canada is getting people to know what I do coming into a new culture and also to learn how to express myself ideas to tally with the ideals of the community. I also face the challenge of not having appropriate funding to cater for logistics to assist me in work of creating art. I make do by working for employment and using my extra time to do my art.
What would you like to share with the people of Calgary about your works?
My art is a statement of the beauty that surrounds me as I go about the day. These encounters with my inner eyes educated with concepts brings expressions to fore to express art forms to depict my appeal of nature and the sheer beauty of life. The arrays of picturesque elements that abounds is always a temptation to put art tools to work at studio. It’s one thing to see the environment in its nature but another thing to see the art in it to depict which I love to achieve.
